SUMMARY:Concert\, "First at Four" Series with Nathalie Colas\, soprano
DESCRIPTION:from event website: \n\n\n\nFirst at Four Concert\n\nOctober 16 @ 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin pianist Eugenia Cheng and soprano Nathalie Colas for Mélodies Francaises in the next First at Four (more on that in a minute!) music series concert. Featuring songs by female composers such as Cecile Chaminade\, Nadia Boulanger\, and Pauline Viardot\, these highly acclaimed artists offer an intimate performance style. The concert will be in French\, however French language skills are not required to enjoy this compelling music! \nCheng\, a concert pianist\, will accompany Colas who has been described as a “luminous soprano” with a voice that’s “floating\, silky” and “hypnotic”. Nathalie was born and raised in Strasbourg\, France and is a graduate of DePaul University School of Music and the Brussels Royal Conservatory. She completed her opera training at the Swiss Opera Studio/Hochschule der Kunst Bern\, Switzerland. \nOur very own Christopher Lorimer had this to say\, “I have long been a fan of Nathalie’s\, having known her when she was an undergraduate student. Over the last several years she’s made a name for herself in the Chicago area and beyond due to her incredibly beautiful voice\, charming presence\, interesting programming\, and impeccable musicianship. The congregation was treated to hearing her this past spring when she sang the soprano solos in “The Seven Last Words of Christ.” \nA goodwill offering from the performance will benefit the CROP Hunger Walk\, a nationwide movement sponsored by Church World Service to raise funds to end hunger and poverty in the U.S. and around the world. \nPerformances always take place in the church sanctuary at 25 E Benton Ave\, Naperville\, IL 60540. \nPlease note\, the CROP Hunger Walk is also on October 16 and therefore the performance will be at 4 p.m. (Consider this performance to be First at Four!)

SUMMARY:Concert\, "Neue Frauenliebe und -leben" - Pomona College
DESCRIPTION:  \nRedefining Woman’s Life and Love features Assistant Professor and soprano Melissa Givens and pianist Eugenia Cheng in Robert Schumann’s Frauenlieben und – leben with a newly-created text by Dr. Cheng\, written from a contemporary woman’s perspective—a recasting from the original text written by Adelbert von Chamisso in 1830 describing the course of a woman’s love for her man. \nThe performers bringing this work to life are Melissa Givens known for thrilling audiences and critics alike and her expressiveness and elegance on the stage. She’s hailed as a singer whose music making is “consistently rewarding” and “a pleasure to hear\,” and Eugenia Cheng\, a pianist\, mathematician\, and founder of the Liederstube who holds three degrees from the University of Cambridge and as a pianist has performed from Seattle’s Town Hall to the Dublin National Concert Hall. \nThe concert is co-sponsored by the Departments of Music and Mathematics and Statistics at Pomona College. \n
